Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, such as academic merit, diversity and inclusion, athletic skill, financial need, among others. Or some combination of these criteria. Scholarship criteria usually reflect the values and goals of the donor or founder of the award. While scholarship recipients are not required to repay scholarships, the awards may require that the recipient continue to meet certain requirements during their period of support, such maintaining a minimum grade point average or engaging in a certain activity (e.g., playing on a college sports team for athletic scholarship holders). Scholarships may provide a monetary award, an in-kind award (e.g., waiving of tuition fees or fees for housing in a dormitory), or a combination.Multifarious Scholarships are provided by Governmental, University & College Level.

Govt. Scholarships (Central & State)

Scholarships are provided by both Central & State Governments provides Scholarship to the students who are admitted to various arts and science course in their first year of study, provided they have secured 505 marks and above in the qualifying examinations. The quantum of Scholarship amounts to Rs. 10000/- and Rs. 12,000/- for Degree and post – graduate courses respectively. The scholarships are awarded on merit, subject to the number allotted each year. 

1.Kerala State Higher Education Council Scholarship (HECS)

Eligibility: First year degree students of Science, Humanities, Social Science, Business Studies. Qualifying marks in previous examination: For SC/ST 45% in Science and 40% in other subjects. For others 50% in Science and 45% in other subjects. Scholarship Amount: For UG Rs. 12000 for first year ; Rs.18,000 for second year (1st Renewal); and Rs. 24,000 per year (2nd Renewal) for final year;   PostGraduation (for continuing education) – Rs. 40,000 for first year (3rd renewal) and Rs. 60,000 for second year (4th renewal).

2. State Merit Scholarship (SMS)

Eligibility: applicant should have scored 50% or above in the qualifying exam and should be first year student of UG or PG. Annual income of the parents/guardian from all sources should not exceed Rs. 1lakh. Scholarship Amount: For UG Rs. 1250 per annum for 3 years. For PG Rs. 1500 per annum for 2 years.

8. Blind/PH Scholarship (BPHFC)

Eligibility: Blind/PH/Deaf students studying in UG and PG. Financial support: Fee Charges for Blind students with family annual income below Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Hostel charges for all PH students who are hostellers and whose family annual income is below Rs. 4.50 lakhs. Eligibility: Meritorious students of the University Departments / Colleges under the University of Kerala for pursuing short term internships/projects in institutions other than their parent Colleges/University Departments.

Award: Rs.8000/- p.m, for internship/ project undertaken within the state and Rs.10,000/- for internship/ project undertaken outside the state. The Scholarship will be provided for minimum period of one month  for P.G. 18. PRATHIBHA Scholarship (KSCSTE, Govt. of Kerala)

Eligiblity: The scholarship offered to meritorius BSc students of Botany, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology; should have qualified Higher Secondary Board Examination with minimum 90% marks or equivalent grade for all subjects put together and minimum 90% marks or equivalent grade for all Science subjects put together. (For SC/ST reservation category, the eligibility is stipulated to minimum marks of 80% or equivalent grade for all subjects in total and minimum 80% marks or equivalent grade for all Science subjects in total.

The objective of the programme is to motivate bright students to Higher studies in Basic and Natural Sciences by awarding them Scholarships. Prathibha Scholars are also provided opportunities to attend Science orientation programmes in reputed research laboratories in the state so as to introduce themselves to cutting edge areas of research and interact with pioneers in Science.

21. PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child

Eligibility: Any single girl child, being the only child of her parents, is eligible to apply for the PG scholarship scheme. The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission to the first year master’s degree programmes. The age of the girl student should not exceed 30 years at the time of admission. 23. Central Sector Scholarship (CSS)

Eligibility: applicant should have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by CBSE and have secured the total aggregate marks (in first five subjects) equal or above the following minimum marks as per the stream opted by the applicant. Science: 418, Commerce: 396, Others: 332 (For all categories: SC/ST/OBC/UR). Annual income of the parents/guardian from all sources should not exceed Rs. 4.50 lakhs. 24. Post Metric Scholarships for Students with Disabilities (PMSD)

Eligibility: The Scholarships are to provide financial assistance to the parents of students with disabilities for studying in post-matric level. 25. Educational concession to the students belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Eligible Communities including Kudumbies and Converts

Award: For Degree students lump-sum grant Rs. 950. Stipend : Rs. 600/- per month for students who come from places beyond the distance of 8 km. and Rs.530 per month for students who live within 8 km. PG students – lump-sum grant Rs. 675, stipend as above. All students eligible for concession should apply in the prescribed forms with necessary documents within one month of their admission to the college.

26. Educational concession to Socially and Educationally Backward Communities under KPCR

Award : Full fee concession for Degree students. Full fee concession, lump-sum grant and stipend for P.G. Students.Income limit: Rs. 25,000/- per annum (Degree) Rs. 42,000/- per annum (P.G.) Applications are to be submitted within two months from the date of admission.

28. Grants for FISHERMAN’s Child (Fisherman Scholarship)

Award: Rs. 400- per annum – Subject to the date of enrollment.
Eligibility: Students of all classes belonging to fishermen community irrespective of income limit. The application forms are available at the office of the Regional Deputy Director of Fisheries, Kollam.

University Merit Scholarship 

Students who have secured and 60% marks or above for degree classes are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The amount is Rs. 900/- per year for Degree course and Rs.1200/- per year for post graduate course. 

State merit Scholarship

This is a merit cum means scholarship for the students with more than 60% marks obtained for the qualifying examination. The income limit for granting the scholarship is Rs. 10000/- for degree & Rs. 12000/- for post graduate courses. The scholarship is Rs. 625/- per year for degree course & Rs. 750 per year for the Post Graduate course.

Students Aid Fund

The income limit for granting scholarship is Rs.10000/- for degree and P.G. courses. The amount of scholarship is Rs.750/- per year for Degree & Rs. 1,000/year for post graduate courses.

  3. Prof. Abraham Philip Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by the department of Physics in 1987). The scholarship is awarded to the students who score the highest score in B.Sc. Physics main and subsidiary in the university examinations. 
  4. Prof. N. P. Gopinatha Pillai Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by the department of Mathematics in 1990) .The student who scores the highest score in B.Sc.   14. Prof. V.K. Mathew Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by the dept.of Physics in 2002 to commemorate the retirement of Prof. V.K. Mathew). The Scholarship is awarded to the Student who secures highest score in M.Sc. (previous) exams 
  15. Smt. P.G. Annamma Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by Smt. P.G. Annamma, Head Accountant (Retired). To be awarded to the students scoring the highest mark in the S.S.L.C. examination from among the children of the Non Teaching staff of this College.
  16. Prof. K. T. Annamma Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by the members of the Teaching Staff of St. Gregorios College, Kottarakara to commemorate the retirement of Prof. K. T. Annamma in 2004).   19. Rev.Fr. Prof. George Varghese Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by Rev.Fr.George Varghese). The Scholarship will be awarded to the student of B.A.Communicative English who scores the highest grade in the final semester University Examinations. 
  20. Prof. L. Koshy Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by the Dept. of Physics in 1999). The Scholarship is awarded to the student who secures the highest score in B.Sc. Physics Examinations.
  21. Prof. G. Jacob Endowment Scholarship (Instituted by Prof. G. Jacob, Former Professor, Dept. of Chemistry in 2013) To help bright students hailing from financially poor background. It is awarded to U.G./P.G. Chemistry students during their course of study. 
  22. H.H. Baselios Marthoma Mathews II Janma Sathabdhi Smaraka Award The endowment has been instituted by Prof. Sabu Varghese, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics who retired from service on 31.05.2015. The amount will be awarded to the student (or students) who score highest mark in the University examination in M.Sc Mathematics (both first and second years) every year.
