PROFILE
The General Library of St.Gregorios College, Kottarakara is located on the 1st floor of Rev. Mathew P. Koshy memorial block, the prime area in the campus that is accessible to all. The library was established in 1964 with the inception of the college, providing professional assistance to students and faculty in their academic activities. The library occupies a total carpet area of about 5000 square feet with150 seating capacity and a spacious stack-room. The library has a separate reference area with a seating capacity of 30 students. Some of the departments also maintain their reference library. The general library has an E-Library with an internet browsing facility (free of charge) and CD/DVD collections. Recently the library is equipped with a D-space facility intended to store and manage the scholarly and digital contents of the college. The library functions now purely on solar power.
The College has a good collection of more than 35000 printed books. The General Library subscribes to leading Journals, Periodicals, and Newspapers. The college has been a member of Inflibnet N-List consortia for many years and provides access to thousands of e-resources. It provides web-based services including access to e-books, e-journals, and research databases, which provides more than 6,000 online Journals and 31,35,000 e-books.
The library is fully automated with LIBSOFT library management software since 2004 which is user-friendly software. Library facilitates Web-OPAC service that provides remote searching of the holding in the library. The automated Gate Register facility accounts for the usage statistics of the library visitors. The library has a good collection of old and rare books. The library has categorized the rare books into books before 1900 and from 1900 to 1950. Additionally, the library offers an add-on course entitled ‘Basics of Library and Information Science.’ A library advisory Committee is functioning in the college which consists of representatives of teachers and students for planning library activities and policies.
