One of the three central divisions of the Department of Oriental Languages is the Department of Hindi which was established in 1964. The department offers Part II Additional Language courses for the students of first and second-year Under Graduate Programmes. It also provides an Add-on course on “Certificate Course in Communicative Hindi” (six months duration). The department was fortunate to have been served in its early years by such luminaries as Prof. Rev. A. Daniel and Prof. C. Annamma who served meritoriously in their capacity till 1993 and 1996 respectively. They were succeeded by Prof. K.S. Leelamma and Prof. Molly Jacob showcased exemplary service till 2000 and 2011 respectively. At present, the department is led by Dr. V. John Panicker who is also the Head of the Department of Oriental Languages. Dr.Panicker is a recognized research guide.
