Established in 1964, the Department of English has been a vibrant and indispensable part of the college since its founding days. The department offers the Under Graduate programme in B.A. English and Communicative English as well as English language courses for B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. students. Other notable courses offered are:

• Add-on course on “Pathway to IELTS”
• Bridge course titled “Elixir: Eliminating Challenges to the Learning of English”
• Open course on “Creative Writing” (for S5 Under Graduate students of other departments)

The department aims at facilitating an in-depth learning of the English languagealong with an awareness of contemporaneous academic and social discourses – all essential tools to thrive in today’s world. To attain this goal, the department has initiated several innovative endeavours, notable examples being the community extension activity CELTS (Communicative English Language Training in Schools), the interdisciplinary lecture series NOESIS and a department magazine titled “The English Dossier.” Students are encouraged to supplement their classroom learning experience and fine-tune their language skills by making use of the department’s language laboratory.

The department has a faculty strength of eight, including two PhD holders. Ms. Jiji Peter is the current Head of Department.
