The Department of Malayalam came in to being in 1964, along with the establishment of the college, by merging the faculty of Malayalam, Hindi and Syriac as Department of Oriental Languages. Prof. M. E Govindan Nambudiri (1964-1993) as the first HOD, put up illustrious service. Prof. Nirmala Mathew (1978-2006), Prof. John Kurakkar (1979-07), Prof. M. Annamma (1980-04), Prof. Lalithambika (1984-09) and Dr. P. K Josekutty (1984- ) contributed substantially to the academic quality enhancement of the department in various periods. Consequent upon the assumption of Dr. P. K Josekutty as the principal of the college on 1 April 2011, Rev. Fr. Prof. D. Jacob took up the responsibility as the HOD. Jubin Mattappallil joined the department in June 2012 as Assistant Professor. Currently the Department offers Part II, Additional Language courses for the students of all First Degree Programmes.
