DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

The Department of Economics started functioning in the College from 1964, when the College began its operations as a junior college. At that time, the subject had been taught only at the Pre-degree level. Prof. Jacob Rajan and Fr. Prof. Ninan P Jacob were the faculty members during the initial stage. From 1980, with the introduction of the BA Degree Course in Political Science, the Department has started handling a subsidiary course in Economics for the students of BA Political Science. With the removal of the Pre-Degree programme from colleges, it remained the only course for the Department to manage. From 2010, with the introduction of the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) at the Under Graduate level, the Department is handling four complementary courses in Economics, distributed over the first four semesters of the First Degree Programme in Political Science.
